about tula
Tula is the village positioned on the northeast cape of Matātula, the easternmost point of Tutuila Island. It is characterized by wide, white sand beaches and houses a prehistoric quarry. The Samoa Observatory, established in 1974 by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is located on Cape Matātula just outside Tula. NASA's Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE) conducts measurements of over 40 trace gases relevant to stratospheric ozone depletion, climate change, and air quality at this observatory.
Cape Matā'ula and the neighboring village of Onenoa are known for their small plantations, steep cliffs, and forested slopes.
