The American Samoa Visitors Bureau (ASVB) is seeking a skilled and motivated Statistical Information Officer to join the ASVB team. The Statistical Information Officer will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical data related to the tourism industry on the island. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting evidence-based decision-making and providing valuable insights to enhance the island’s tourism strategies and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
1. Data Collection: Gather relevant data from various sources, including surveys, databases and industry reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
2. Data Analysis: Employ statistical techniques and tools to analyze tourism-related data, identify patterns, trends, and correlations, and extract meaningful insights to support decision-making processes.
3. Reporting and Presentation: Prepare comprehensive reports, dashboards, and visualizations to effectively communicate statistical findings and key performance indicators (KPIs) to internal stakeholders, government agencies, and tourism partners.
4. Forecasting and Modeling: Develop forecasting models to anticipate tourism trends and demand, providing valuable inputs for strategic planning, resource allocation, and investment decisions.
5. Data Integrity and Quality Control: Establish and maintain data management systems, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and adherence to data protection regulations. Implement quality control measures to validate data accuracy and reliability.
6. Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with internal departments, tourism organizations, and research institutions to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and identify opportunities for collaboration in statistical data collection and analysis.
7. Industry Research: Stay updated with the latest trends, innovations, and benchmarks in the tourism industry, conducting research to identify emerging opportunities and challenges.
8. Data Dissemination: Develop user-friendly data dissemination tools and platforms to make statistical information accessible to stakeholders, such as online portals, interactive visualizations, and infographics.
9. Understanding of the unique dynamics that impact data in American Samoa.
10. Performs related duties as required and assigned by the ASVB Executive Director.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field is preferred by not required.
Proven experience in statistical data analysis, preferably in the tourism or hospitality industry.
Proficiency in statistical software packages, such as R, Python, or SPSS, and data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
Familiarity with tourism industry metrics, KPIs, and trends is desirable.
Knowledge of data management best practices and data protection regulations.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
